Green Pheasants
At first glance, it appears to be a leather product with a zipper, but in reality, everything is made using traditional lacquer art techniques. It is shaped using the dry lacquer technique, where hemp cloth is layered with lacquer. The metal fittings are made with maki-e, and the texture of the leather is reproduced using kawari-nuri. The theme of the work is "visualization of assumptions." Zippers and leather products are familiar to anyone in modern society, and can be described as "the surface that covers the contents." This work is a simple box, though the zipper cannot be opened. When the lid is opened, it reveals mother-of-pearl decorations on black lacquer, and you realize that this work is made of lacquer.
