Gold and Silver Vein-Motif Paper Folding Screen
Green Pheasants
A folding screen is made lightweight by layering multiple sheets of washi paper over a lattice framework. Even the folding hinges are made of paper. In this work, a folding screen was first constructed, then paper covered with gold and silver leaf was applied, and on top of that, a traditional craft paper called "vein paper" (yomyaku-shi), produced in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture, was further layered. 【Message】 Traditionally, folding screens are made by mounting an artist’s work onto a screen. However, they can also be crafted solely by a mounting artisan without any painted artwork, functioning as an independent craft object. We hope this piece can be enjoyed as an element of hospitality, such as for welcoming guests in an entryway.
