KASHIKI 02

This piece was created using traditional woodturning techniques, in which wood is shaped by rotating it on a lathe and carving it down.

By assembling turned wooden rods, a deep confectionery container was completed. It can be used to store items you wish to keep visible. Because its contents remain visible, the container itself does not feel visually heavy and blends naturally into the surrounding space.

This KASHIKI series was made possible by reintroducing handmade round-planing tools that are rarely used today, and by fusing them with other techniques, transforming the limitations of traditional woodturning into new possibilities.

We hope that the confectionery containers created through this new approach to woodturning will, by varying in size, continue to exist as everyday utilitarian objects that endure into both the present and the future.
