"Shin-sou" (Heart Window)

Calligraphy by Mouri Suzuki with Exquisite Mounting by KISHINO Den

Height 835 mm x Width 730 mm

Materials: Japanese paper, fabric

Weight: 1200g

This work is by calligrapher Mouri Suzuki. The purple part is made of ganpishi, a type of Japanese paper with a history of over 1000 years. Additionally, the area surrounding the artwork uses a precious fabric called 'Takeyamachi-kire,' which is adorned with beautiful gold leaf accents. Sometimes, instead of using fabric, Japanese paper is used for decorating hanging scrolls. However, ganpishi is rarely used because it can break easily when rolled, making this piece a structurally challenging work.

Message from Mouri Suzuki:
■ 心窓 shin-sou
By opening the windows of our hearts, we can let light in and give our own light to others.

Unfortunately, Hyogu is becoming a forgotten art in Japan over time.

To keep Hyogu alive, it is essential to preserve traditional expressions while also incorporating new ones.
