NAKANISHI Yuki

Introduction of Artist

Born in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, Yuki developed a love for craftsmanship from an early age and aspired to become an artisan during junior high school. After graduating from high school, she enrolled in the Kyoto Institute of Traditional Crafts and graduated in 2010. That same year, she apprenticed under Fukuo Kawai, a traditional Toyohashi brush craftsman.
In 2016, she became independent, and since 2018, she has led and organized the annual “Brush Offcut Recycling Contest,” promoting sustainable use of materials.
In 2020, she established her own workshop, Fude Kobo Yuki. Devoted to making brushes that meet the needs of users with care and precision, she values staying close to those who use her tools—always striving not to disappoint. Her signature look is a brush hairpin worn in her hair.

These days, opportunities for handwriting have become fewer, but why not take a moment to experience shodo, the traditional Japanese art of calligraphy? The brush is a tool that allows for flexible expression—from delicate, fine lines to bold, thick strokes. I hope you’ll enjoy not only the rich lines that flow from the brush, but also the scent of the ink and the quiet moment when it seeps into the paper.
