KASHIKI 01
Green Pheasants
This work was created using traditional woodturning techniques, in which wood is shaped by rotating it on a lathe and carving it down.
By utilizing the characteristic of woodturning—carved-off lid sections—together with bentwood techniques, a deep confectionery container was completed.
It is normally used to store sweets, and when unexpected guests arrive, the lid can be used as a tray for hospitality.

This KASHIKI series was made possible by reintroducing handmade round-planing tools that are rarely used today, and by fusing them with other techniques, transforming the weaknesses of traditional woodturning into new possibilities.
We hope that the confectionery containers created through this new potential of woodturning will, by varying in size, continue to exist as everyday utilitarian objects that endure into both the present and the future.
