Product Information
My latest work: the chiritori x houki 2.0 is carved meticulously with each piece by hand. It is made using "Eco-Urethane," natural indigo dye from Tokushima, and the wiping lacquer technique used in Yamanaka lacquerware. The broom, on the other hand, is a one-of-a-kind creation, crafted with self-cultivated broomcorn and honed with years of experience and dedication.
Particularly, I repeatedly fine-tuned the broom's handle to perfectly match the dustpan, creating a unique and harmony with the dustpan and the broom set. After using this set, the user's posture improves, and the cleaning tools themselves don't look ugly when hung in the home. Instead, they become a beautiful addition to the household space, transforming overlooked cleaning tools into a part of enhancing the overall aesthetics of the living environment.

Traditional craftsmanship are forgotten and lost in our modernizing society. I constantly seek for a better way to blend traditional craft techniques with the contemporary world. To me, craftsmanship goes beyond appearances, seamlessly integrating into daily life, engaging with users, and soothing the soul. Moreover, I believe that through the beauty of craftsmanship, we can also pass down valuable techniques to future generations.
The creative essence of Chiritori x Houki 2.0 has two origins. Firstly, it aims to revitalize the declining traditional industry of brooms by reconfiguring it with new designs for modern living spaces. Secondly, it seeks to create a unified combination of design aesthetics between the dustpan (chiritori) and broom (houki). Both are incomplete without the other, forming a harmonious pairing of the two tools.

The Chiritori x Houki is crafted by shaping each piece by hand and dyeing it with natural indigo dye from Tokushima. The broom is a one-of-a-kind creation, made from broom corn cultivated with years of experience and dedication to detail. Particularly, aligning the handle of the broom perfectly with the dustpan required multiple adjustments, resulting in a truly unique broom and dustpan set.
【Review】By Fumie Erikawa, Chairman of the Jury
Not only its excellent functionality as a tool, but also its refined appearance captivated me. The gentle touch when held, soothing colors, and sweeping sound resemble the voice of the broom. The design, permeated with the creator's aesthetic sense down to the finest details, encapsulates Japan's natural outlook, transforming the act of "cleaning" and the user's presence into something beautiful. Within this small dustpan and broom lies the essence of Japan's cherished purity, possessing the power to tangibly spread living culture of Japan to the world.
