This obi was created using the E-goshi Hakata technique, one of the seven traditional Hakata-ori styles, at Kyowa Weaving Factory, founded in 1914.
To recreate the distinctive bleeding and brush strokes unique to ink in woven form, we conducted numerous test weaves and finally achieved this expression in the fabric.
Great care was taken with the color of the washi-like ground and the ink-like pattern, with the shading expressed through the fine layering of weft threads.
The ground fabric, which reproduces the texture of washi paper, is so delicate that it requires more advanced techniques than regular weaving, and it was woven meticulously with the utmost care.
