The artwork titled "Preconceived Notions" is used as a decorative element. Traditionally, in hanging scrolls, the artwork is positioned in the center. However, in this piece, I have subverted this convention by placing the textile at the center. Moreover, the textile used is deliberately one that is full of holes and typically not used. The green paper on the top and bottom is called "Momigami," which is made using traditional Japanese techniques.

In discussion with the ink abstraction artist Chima, we decided to challenge the traditional hierarchical relationship between the artist and the Hyogushi. The proposal was to create a work that disrupts the conventional dynamic while maintaining the traditional form of a hanging scroll. Thus, while the traditional relationship is subverted, the traditional shape of the hanging scroll remains intact.

Unfortunately, Hyogu is becoming a forgotten art in Japan over time.

To keep Hyogu alive, it is essential to preserve traditional expressions while also incorporating new ones.
